You do not need a proper camera. A phone in daylight beats a flash every time.

  • Shoot in daylight

    Near a window, no flash. Flash flattens the pile and hides the colour.

  • One of the whole rug

    Stand up, shoot straight down if you can. It tells us shape, wear pattern and proportion.

  • Close-ups of the damage

    Get right in on holes, fraying and stains. Put a coin or your hand in shot for scale.

  • The edge and the back

    The back tells us how it was made, which decides what can be done to it.
